Local Wines from Local Vineyards

The AV Winery, with vineyards and wine making facilities located at 20th West and Avenue M in Lancaster, use locally grown Merlot, Zinfandel and Sangiovese grapes. They purchase additional Merlot and Cabernet grapes from Vincent Hill Vineyards, close by in Acton. Some grapes are imported from Madera and the Central California Coastal areas; but the report from the AV Winery is that each year more and more grapes are grown right here in the Antelope Valley.

Wines made at the AV Winery include; a Cabernet Sauvignon, both red and white Zinfandels, Merlot, Chardonnay, Muscat and a variety of house blends. AV Winery

has six employees and produces a volume of approximately 5,000 cases annually.

Antelope Valley "Backlot to the Movie Studios"

The Antelope Valley has been a favorite "back lot"

for Hollywood's production since the earliest days
of celluloid movies.

Today, the production mix still includes major motion pictures, but also counts location filming for television features, videos, commercials and still photography for advertising agencies.

The financial impact of location work on the Antelope Valley Economy is tracked by film offices in the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale and in unincorporated areas. Approximately 80% of film and television location work is done in unincorporated areas of North Los Angeles and Southeast Kern Counties.

ACTIVITIES RECAP - March 2000- June 2000

The Antelope Valley Film Office assisted and tracked 61 production companies to the Antelope Valley from March to June 2000, totaling 118 production days, generating an estimated income of $ 787,000
